October 11, 1997 John James II (my father) set out to hike the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim. A 42 mile endurance test reserved for only the fittest. He trekked across and then started his return. He was a few miles north of Phantom Ranch when he went into Cardiac Arrest. It was there that he had a heart attack and died.

Two years ago Joe and I hiked across and back for the 15th anniversary of his passing. Today we did it again. This time I took a picture of him with me and carried him on my back. I wanted him to be able to complete his journey. It was a successful trip and one I won’t soon forget.
