My first time on this trail. This trail is about 30 mins from my house in Downtown Phoenix, so I won't be coming here often, but it was definitely worth the drive this time. Got started a little late today, after 9:30am, so it was already a little warm out. Can't believe it's still this hot in mid-November! The parking lot was mostly full, which surprised me a little.

The first mile of this trail is wide, mostly flat, and easy. A lot of ironwood trees along the beginning of this trail, including some huge ones filling the wash. Don't think I've seen so many ironwood trees in one place anywhere else on SM... pretty cool. After the easy first mile, I was praying to the switchback gods. Basically just a mile of steep rocky switchbacks. Very strenuous. Nice trail though with good views to the south and of the Estrellas behind you. Thankfully I was hiking with the sun mostly behind me. Went up to the little unmarked peak at the 2.4 mile post for a little bonus AEG.

When I got to the end of the trail I climbed up the first hill along the National, then went down to Telegraph Pass and back up for a little more bonus AEG. I kind of regretted it coming back up from Telegraph Pass! Coming back down the switchbacks was a little slow-going, and a knee-buster. Despite that this was a great hike. I definitely got my exercise today on this one. Saw maybe 20-25 people out there. Not bad.
