Weather was perfect today and I didn't feel like driving too far, so back to Goat Hill. Didn't feel like I had a whole lot of energy this morning so I got off to a kind of slow start. My legs were already feeling tired just going up Ranger. Once I got to the top though, I was fine, and actually got a 2nd wind. Funny how that happens. No one on Goat Hill. There always seems to be a nice breeze up there.

When I went back down Goat Hill I felt like hiking a little more, so I decided to keep heading west on the National for a bit. I'd never really gone west of Goat Hill on the National. I was feeling good so I just kept going. Met another hiker about where the Lost Ranch Ruins trail meets the National and we stopped and talked for a few minutes. The only person I saw on the National. I kept going until the National started descending...I figured I'd just go down to the bottom and come back the way I came. Then I realized I could just keep going and take Bajada back to the Ranger TH for a nice loop, which is what I did. So, a 3.5 mile hike turned into almost 10 miles. :) Descending the west side of the National was really rocky, with some washed out sections of the trail. With this hike I've now done all of the National at some point.

I enjoyed Bajada a little more than last time, just don't like the super rocky sections so much. The eastern half of Bajada was nicer, and seems to have had some maintenance done to it recently, with some nice fresh packed dirt. Didn't see a single person on Bajada at all. I was getting a little sluggish by the last mile or two, but overall I made good time. I really enjoyed this hike, and couldn't have asked for a better day.
