I was itching to go back to the Superstitions, so I brought my girlfriend here to try out the Miners Needle Loop. The TH parking was full so we parked in the overflow lot just down the road. Started our hike around 10:30am. Completely overcast, and almost chilly. Perfect weather.

We did the hike CCW starting on Dutchman. Barely 5 mins into Dutchman we saw a tarantula on the trail. First time I've seen one in the wild...cool! :y: It was pretty docile. The first 2 miles of the Dutchman were a nice walk. Not a whole lot of AEG, but great scenery. The views to the S/SE were awesome. Tons of huge saguaros. The climbing really started 2-3 miles into the trail, but the grade was always very mild, so we made our way up with no real trouble at all. The valley at the "top" of Dutchman after we started heading west was awesome. Very lush and full of life in there, even in December. Not much AEG here either, but a beautiful walk.

There were a few big cottonwoods when we got to the Bluff Springs junction, with a little bit of fall foliage. Didn't expect to see cottonwoods today. No water here though. I wasn't sure where to look for the spring, so not sure if that was running or not. Very nice spot though. A few minutes into Bluff Springs we started to see some running water. I remember last year when I was here there was a lot more water, but still nice to see some. More awesome scenery here with a lot of variety in flora. Pretty rocky heading back on Bluff Springs. A couple short sections of somewhat steep AEG. I definitely prefer going UP "Cardiac Hill"... wasn't a whole lot of fun going down.

This hike's description page mentions it's a "popular" loop... Today, however, pretty much everyone must have been on Peralta, because we saw ONE person on this entire loop today. We really didn't expect to have this much solitude today, and it was awesome! This was a great hike and I can't wait to come back out here again.
