This was a short hike through Spur Cross Park to the Tonto National Forest on the west side. The objective was to do a little off-trail exploring and check out the flat top of a ridge for possible Indian ruins. I didn't find much on top of the ridge, just two petroglyphs. The flat top of the ridge had a large grassy area with deep soil so it might have worked for dry land farming by the Indians. If so, there might have been metates in the embedded rocks around the periphery but a short search did not turn up any. There were some large (for Cave Creek) Indian habitation sites along the Tortuga Trail about 1.8 miles away and another site about 1 mile away in the other direction so maybe the Indians found no need to build on top of this ridge.

It was a pleasant day with some nice views and enough AEG for a good workout.
