| no partners | | Got to First Water parking lot at 7:10am laced up my new shoes, (decided to try out a pair of trail runners instead of boots for once) and was on the trail by 7:15. I was a bit cold heading to Garden Valley on Second Water but by the time I made it to the Valley I was nice and warm from the hike. I made it to the sign post at the junction of Second Water and Black Mesa and took a minute to figure out some surrounding landmarks on my topo map. Once I was satisfied I continued on to Black Mesa trail, I had keep moving at a decent pace because my sun glasses would start to fog up if I stopped to check my map or stop to look around
I only passed one backpacker from the Trailhead and all along Black Mesa Trail. I enjoyed some nice views of Yellow peak and Black top mesa as I made my way down the trail. It was a little breezy when I made it to the cholla forest so I decided to keep moving and take a break at the junction with the Dutchman. Once I made it to the junction I found a private spot to have lunch and relax for about 30 minutes.
I headed down the Dutchman towards First Water and passed quite a few hikers on this trail. Everyone was friendly and seemed to be having a pleasant afternoon on a beautiful day just like myself. I was so wrapped up in my own thoughts that before I knew it I was already back at the sign post for Second Water trail. Headed back up to the trailhead and exchanged hellos with the gentleman at the guest log and headed back for a beer. |
