Just realized my camera was never reset from going to Montana/Wyoming so all of my photosets from Sept are off by an hour which doesn't do much good when geocoding ](*,) . So thanks Joe for fixing that on about 4 of my photo sets including Rough Eye Javelina Loop too (which explains some confusion I was having when writing captions). I wanted my geocoding to be accurate; especially for the Rough Eye Javelina Loop.

I had barely taken any movies from the last time I hiked this way in 2010 either so I decided I would do a lot of that. I've also been having problems with spots on my lens so I really cleaned it the nite before... unfortunately I should have cleaned it one more time as it appears there are two spots, one really more pronounced. May have to send it up to the warranty company to handle. I think the camera does a nice job with the movies except I find it seems to lose focus for no apparent reason from time to time.

I hadn't done the loop this way since the first time I did it in 2010 before heading down into the Grand Canyon for the first time. I had emailed Jack on Friday morning to let him know of our plans. It was late notice but he decided to join us. There weren't many folks at the TH which was surprising. The road in is not in very good shape either. We took off around 9 enjoying the wonderful morning temperatures. As we made the turn north, we could hear voices and would come upon two quiet and well-behaved boy scout troops. NOT. While we were passing the last group not too far from the turn to Black Mesa Trail, one boy had his pack flat on the ground and he laid down into it before getting up with it on his back. Rather ingenious; but I think he had too much stuff for a little guy.

The view into and past Garden Valley are always rewarding and then as you head up to the Mesa you get a brief glimpse to the Four Peaks. The climb up to the Mesa is longer and rockier than I remembered. Eventually you reach the top where we took a moment to eat Pat's cookies for a snack after snapping some photos. On the way back off the mesa we ran into four elderly hikers who were out enjoying the loop today. I also like going thru that drainage area toward Yellow Peak. Last time I was thru here in 2014 it was full of water from the 2 inches of rain that had fallen the days before.

And then it was on down the slippery slope to the dry Creek area. The hike down seemed longer than I remembered too. We took a short lunch break at the junction where a hiker stopped to visit. We would later see him visiting with two backpackers who had passed by the junction. Surprisingly it got a little warm for the hike out but nothing too bad. We made our climb up Parker Pass. I noticed some new scenery along the way since I was filming so much. I do enjoy the hike on the Dutchman and always say a found farewell to Weavers Needle at Transmission Pass.

And then its down to and along First Water Creek and drainage area which always is intriguing. We met 3 horses and their riders at the TH before heading over to the Bluebird, my first visit. Altho I had to drink a regular beer which I haven't done in a very long time and I now why I don't anymore. Anyway, a nice hike with Ambika and Jack.

The videos are in production despite the stupid spots on the lens. Those spots only show in the video not the pictures so it's very frustrating that I can't seem to get it perfectly clean. I think some of the geyser steam may have gotten on it but I'm not sure if that's the reason.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
