Tanya and I enjoyed a nice Valentines Day at Reavis - had been awhile since either of us had been here and glad to have returned! Rincon had a good time, too. We found a busy north trailhead Saturday late morning, but got into a groove and just carried a nice steady pace to Reavis in just over 3 hours. Nice! About half of the backpackers we encountered were headed to Reavis Falls, while a few other couples had the same destination in mind as we did. One passing hiker, upon being greeted by Tanya with "Happy Valentines Day", reminded us it was also Statehood Day. More occasions to celebrate.

Set up camp for the night a bit away from the crowds near the gently flowing creek just north of the Gap Trail junction. Rincon still had some energy after his 9 mile approach and ran around camp in circles. He's carrying his own food next time!

I carried in a bottle of wine for us to enjoy around our small campfire, and when that was gone, it was off to bed. A few sprinkles hit the tent this morning, but those were long gone by the time we started our way back. Stopped on the way back to bag Peak 5370' from the high saddle before the final descent - very short and straightforward trek to the top. Rincon, like Tanya and I, preferred the rock over any brush. Smart doggie. Great views of the whole region from the top - could see both Camelback Mountain way off to the west and the Mogollon Rim and Baker Butte to the north.

Saw a few pockets of poppies and lupine at 3-4 miles from the trailhead.

Creek was flowing clear past all of the campsites between the Gap Trail and where the Reavis Trail leaves the drainage on the north end of the valley for the Frog Tanks Trail junction.
