Since moving here, I've managed to hike for years without seeing Fossil Creek. When I learned of the road's partial closure, I figured that might thin the crowds somewhat, and when Richard and Alana asked me to come along, why not? We wanted to make a loop that included both the Fossil Springs and Flume Trails. At the dam, we all swam under the cave-like alcove a little ways downstream, which was impressive. Rincon loved the water once we made it down the trail through the pinon-juniper forest, and he had his first encounter with a Mojave rattler along the Flume Trail. Warm and breezy all day, which made swimming fun. Long slog back up, but it was a good day and had a tired dog at the end.
