| partners | | After bad weather put the hike on hold we finally got this one done. Joe, JJ, and I started from the west Horseshoe side at 7am while Ken, Fan, and Bruce started from Barnhardt TH about the same time. Starting up Davenport Trail # 89 we kept a good pace thanks to JJ's motor knocking out the first 8 miles to Club Cabin...also saw 2 rattlesnakes within 5 minutes of each other just before the cabin in Davenport Creek. Took short break at the cabin and then continued on the semi-off trail portion of the hike. It's 5.6 miles from Club Ranch to Chilson Camp....this section of Davenport Trail was not as bad as anticipated but still tough to follow often becoming a cairn hunt.
We met the others heading westbound about 1pm stopping to share trail knowledge of what to expect. Then continued on to South Fork of Deadman's Creek and eventually Chilson. Deadman's Creek had really good flow very nice section of canyon. But the climb out was about 1100 feet and 2 miles following remnants of the trail to Chilson Camp. Once at Chilson we were back on super trail and headed quickly towards Barnhardt with a quick stop at Big Kahuna falls. Great hike...thanks to Ken and Bruce for setting this up and JJ for the pizza |
