| partners | | | We had a friend who volunteered to drive us to Marshall Gulch TH so we could finish this section of AZT that we partially hiked last year. Starting from Marshall Gulch the trail goes up the paved road through Summerhaven and over to the Control Road on the backside of Mount Lemmon. Eventually this makes way to real trail which follows Oracle Ridge. Great views on the ridge of lingering snow on Mount Lemmon and Canada Del Oro. The trail follows the ridge almost straight down towards Oracle alternating between old road and trail. Some downed trees in the middle part of the ridge and some rocky steep sections dropping about 5,000 feet to Oracle. Fortunately we had arranged to meet fellow HAZ'ers Shawn, Tracey, Angela and Ambika at High Jinks Ranch near the end of this AZT section. The trail runs right past the ranch and is listed as National Historic Site and also happens to be a B&B run by the very friendly Dan Blanco. Once at the ranch we enjoyed the surroundings and prepared for our day hike the next day. |
