Then the trail drops down into Boston Gulch and makes it way through cool grass lands and large oaks. Eventually it gets over to Kentucky Gulch and Kentucky Camp about 3.7 miles into the hike. The camp was headquarters for mining operations in the early 1900's. We took some time checking out the grounds and reading the interpretive signs. Just before leaving the camp a group of hikers arrived about 10 strong...really the only hikers seen all weekend. Just outside of the camp the trail hits road again and stays there for at least 3 miles before going back to single track. At about 9 miles we dropped into Enzenberg Canyon where we took our lunch break. After lunch we only had about 5 miles to go which is a series of drainages and ridgeline crossings. Very nice section of rolling grassy hills and large oak trees as we hiked away from the Santa Rita's. |
