Thinking it would be an uneventful stroll with MJ in late afternoon, I was suprised and delighted to see the park lit up with flowering cactus. The many Buckhorns were all sporting yellow flowers and, most beautiful of all, the purple blooms of Engelmann's Hedgehog. Even a barrel cactus or two were in bloom. Given a choice, I'll take the blooming hedgehog over a field of poppies anytime. Brittlebush season is all but gone and the creosote is putting out seed balls, an indication that their blooming time is fast vanishing.
