Left the 40th St TH shortly after 5 with MJ and did a lasso loop through the country to the south. We decided to forego the VOAZ and stayed on the 1-A Perl Charles Tr below it. There, as we approached the memorial bench to the east, I saw a reddish-brown rattler move across the trail. Believe it was a speckled but could have been a tiger. Don't really know. It stopped to pose in granite for a photo. We moved on before it did. Beautiful reptile, though. After a snack at the bench, we walked north through the valley back to parking lot. Surprised to see so few on the trails, and most of them were bikers. Probably had something to do with Mother's Day. Many saguaro putting out their knobby buds but no flowers yet.
