| no partners | | it was such a nice day I had to hike again after work. Hopefully I can get back to doing an occasional Windgate Pass hike after work. The sky was slightly overcast and had some virga to the north and then to the east as I hiked on the trail. Chumley, is "virga" not a real word? or am I spelling it wrong. There weren't a lot of folks out yet as I started around 3:15ish.
Because of the filtered sky, it gave me the opportunity to film this trail in a different light. I hadn't filmed this hike since 2011 when I had my mother's camera and went c-clockwise. Other than brittlebush blooming and a few hedgehogs and globe mallow, it's pretty devoid of wildflowers out here. I thot I was making decent time but according to HAZtraks I wasn't. It might have been because I had music plugs in my ears but who knows. There was also a slight breeze today which was nice.
I made it to the saddle but forgot to film it so I hiked back to it and then continued on down again. I had probably seen 1/2 dozen other hikers to this point and that's about all I would see on the southern portion as well. I never really can tell which is the harder approach to the saddle but either way is a good light workout I think (always beats going to the gym!). I really found the drainages most interesting; I'm sure it was the diffused light as it effected everything in a very unique way.
Two hours later I was back at the Trailhead and hungry as ever; looking forward to my piece of pizza. Basha's was out though. So I thot I was stuck with getting a QTrip slice but then I remembered the Italian joint around the corner and they made me a piece of pizza .
3 part video - I couldn't help myself as the light made for such unique scenery and the brittlebush lit up the way as well and the cool sky:

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
