After coming up from Sunset Vista Trail and taking some photos and videos of the other hikers on this part of the hike, they went up Picacho Peak but I went left on the Hunter Trail. I fear I didn't have enough leg power to get me up the Peak since I had worked out pretty hard on Friday afternoon. I also didn't have it in my head that I would bag the peak anyway.

So I made my way up and down and up and down the Hunter Trail to its TH. I like it as you come away from the Sunset Vista Trail around the corner and up a little to be able to see to the desert floor and all the way to the valley and mountains to the west . And then you come to it, the start of the cable climb. I tried to film bits of it and would stop here and there to catch my breath and also get video of other folks coming and going. That one last little section is a steep son of a gun that's for sure. It was fun filming as people topped out of that with a big sigh. They also seemed to get a kick out of me filming them.

Finally at the saddle it was time for a snack. I talked with an older couple who had done this another time. They were very nice. I showed them my HAZtraks where they could see the elevation we had just climbed. When they left I sat on the bench next to another lady who had just taken her young children up the Peak. I was showing her HAZtraks as well and was talking about hikearizona.com when she asked about other hikes and some more hikers came up and said how great hikearizona.com was. They use the site frequently but are not contributors. Anyway, I told them to check out HAZtraks. They were quite excited about it. And then another hiker noticed my Arizona Trail bandana tied to the back of my pack and talked about how he was doing all the Appalachian Trail and it was hard.

Okay, enough dallying, time to get down the mountain. Fortunately this trek down was all in the shade. There was much interesting plant life to see :) and a couple areas you had to be a bit careful getting down as it was slippery. It seemed like it took me forever to get down. There were still a lot of people going up. Toward the bottom there was a father and daughter. I didn't think she would get very far at the pace they were traveling and he indicated they were just going to the giant alcove. Seemed a good destination for her though not easy for her.

As we got down in the sunshine the poppies were appearing more and some other wildflowers. I looked over to where other folks were hiking and decided I would try that trail tomorrow morning before leaving the park.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
