| no partners | | Hiked this on a rainy day. At the top, we were in the clouds with visibility of 100 feet. There are great long distance views up there--but it's occasionaly fun to hike in the rain.
We didn't start from the signed trailhead which is a little over a mile from the Wilderness boundary. Instead we started from the end of FR 1740. There's a large corral and water tank here and the trail enters the Wilderness a few feet past the corral. (1740 runs west from FR 449a to the Wilderness)
The trail had seen recent horse and foot traffic and was easy to follow. I wore shorts and ended with only a few scratches--from canyon oak and manzanita. There wasn't any catclaw at all.
Note: FR 449a and 1740 are roads through sandy washes. Especially after water flows, the sand may be soft and impassable by 2WD vehicles. |
