Did this as a loop from the road near the CCC camp:
- up the Telephone trail to Doghouse Spring
- up the Icehouse trail
- along the road near Signal Peak to the upper Kellner TH
- down the Kellner trail to the lower end at the water tanks
- down the rest of the way using the lower Icehouse trail to get back to the road.
The Telephone/Icehouse part of the trip is a great hike with heavy shade above Doghouse spring. The Kellner Canyon and lower Icehouse parts are boring and there's little shade. If I did this again, I'd either come back down the Icehouse trail or hike along the road at the top to the upper Six Shooter trail and down it.
The only part of the Kellner trail that I found interesting was the section from the top down to the sawmill ruins. If you want to see the ruins, drive to the top and hike down about a mile and then back up. |
