Since Jefferson, Colorado is a wide spot in the road, a better marker would be that the turnoff is about 20 miles NE of Fairplay, CO. The trailheads are not hard to get to, but to reach the trail from Lost Park, you hike along the Brookside McCurdy Trail for about 2 miles. Although the Brookside Trail is great, the long stretch of CT up along the North Fork Creek is magnificent. Really isolated, no significant number of hikers, excellent scenery, beautiful mountains, great wildflowers in July. This may be my favorite segment along the CT. Most of the trail is in the Lost Peak Wilderness. Gradual climb except for the last couple of miles, which is nice switchbacks down to the Long Gulch TH |
