Took a day hike to Stina Point from my camp site located back in the forest between Stina and Timp Points. I started out by exploring along the old overgrown logging road near camp looking for where the old Rim Trail #10 crossed it on my gps map. I found two old diamond plastic trail markers nailed to a tree. These were the same type of trail markers I had seen a few days before on a confirmed section of Trail #10 so I'm fairly sure the old trail passed through here. However there was no sign of the trail on the forest floor, it had been completely reclaimed by the forest. I then followed the old logging road along the ridge top towards Stina Point finally having to bushwhack across a deep drainage to reach the Stina Point Road about 0.5 miles from the point. On Stina Pt Road I discovered cell phone coverage good enough for a voice call so called my wife for the first time since leaving home 5 days ago. That delayed my hike about an hour but I was in no hurry.

The views from Stina Pt were blocked by trees and brush which required some maneuvering to find big enough gaps for taking pictures. I cooled off in the shade of a juniper tree and had lunch before hiking back up Stina Pt road for about 0.8 miles where there was a much easier place to cross the drainage on the return to camp. I got back to camp in the early afternoon and settled down to read a book. But I soon got bored with that and decided to upload pictures from my cameras to my laptop and start the process of selecting photos for triplogs. Then I got into doing some photoshop editing. My laptop is several years old and the battery has almost no charge holding capability so I had it plugged into my car. My cell phone needed charging so I plugged it into my laptop. Around 5:00 pm I suddenly remembered to start up the car to recharge its battery. Oops!!! The car battery was too discharged to start the car. Not a good thing when you're camped deep in the forest with no cell phone coverage on an unmarked and overgrown road.

I quickly came up with a plan to stay the night and then hike out to Timp Point early in the morning hoping to either find campers there willing to help or get cell phone coverage for a call to AAA towing service. The next morning I packed up enough water and food to last about 24 hours and set out for the 3.5 mile hike to Timp Pt at 5:00am. It was an easy hike and I made good time arriving there an hour later. Everyone was sound asleep in the first campsite but a guy was sitting in the next camp enjoying the view from the rim while waiting for his coffee to finish perking. He was quite willing to drive back to my camp with me to jump start my car with my jumper cables. He didn't even seem to mind driving his 2 year old Subaru Outback through a half mile of knee high grass and the occasional small New Mexican Locust bush. This had to be due to all the good karma I've built up from all the times I've helped out people in similar situations over the years. The jump start got the FJ going with no problem and I was packed up and ready to head to my next destination, Fire Point, by 7:00am
