| no partners | | This was my last hiking day of my 7 day car camping trip to Camp Grasshopper on the Mogollon Rim. I was tired of bushwhacking in the bottom of canyons and wanted to hike out of camp rather than driving to a hiking destination. So I came up with this loop hike down to the end of FR139C, into Barbershop Canyon to connect up with the U-Bar trail, then take the U-Bar Trail to FR145 and follow it south along the top of McClintock Ridge to the Barbershop Trail. Then take the Barbershop trail west to FR139 and follow it and FR139C back to camp. It was a lot of road hiking but it was a weekday so I didn't expect to encounter much traffic.
It was another beautiful day and the scenery along the ridge tops was as enjoyable as being down in the canyons. My route included at least 7 miles of road but I never encountered a car on this weekday. I even managed to elude Hank in his Grasshopper Jeep who left camp to wait for me at the intersection of the Barbershop Trail and FR139. I had grown tired of hiking roads and trails so had taken an off trail shortcut out of Barbershop Canyon and then followed the ridge top on the west side of FR139C for the 2.3 miles back to camp. About a half hour after I arrived in camp and was settled down with beer in hand reading a book I heard the characteristic growl of the GH Jeep coming up the road. The end of another relaxing day hiking on the Mogollon Rim. |
