I was having flashbacks to my childhood days spent in the Great Smoky Mountains, only today was one spent in the literally smoky mountains. Still, we had good views. Strong wind kept the temps nice and the bugs away. We had been to 2nd Burroughs several times but never made the trek up to 3rd Burroughs until day. It's definitely worth the extra effort. Great views of the Winthrop Glacier. On the way up we saw a huge herd of goats (about 30-40) down to the right side of 1st Burroughs. As another hiker mentioned, the smell of smoke in the air had me craving BBQ all day! |
