| no partners | | After hiking 703 to Barr from Heizer decided to check where the 638 went. My wife saved me the road walk both ways dropping me off before work and picking me up after getting the kids. Didn't need the extra 4 miles.
Anyway, up until a mile before Barr 638 is in real good shape. There is no sign and there is a large branch blocking the trail where it meets Barr it is however directly across from a sign for 7.8 miles to the Summit and conveniently below Barr camp. I stopped at the camp ate some food and headed up. Hit the camp on the way back and filtered water because I couldn't stand the taste from the water fountain up top last trip.
Posted a route from Route Scout. This would be the return from the Pumpkin route if I ever do it again. No questionable areas or bushwacking. Because of where it connects it would add a couple miles to the trip. This hike was pretty nice for scenery and exploring the area. 638 crosses several large canyons to get to the Barr Trail so the scenery was fantastic with a couple pretty old stands of aspen. Saw several Marmot, deer, and one pika. Great weather and the forecasted T-storms did not materialize. |
