| no partners | | We started the drive up to pikes Peak early in the morning ($15.00 per person), Park opens at nine. At this time they were only allowing travel up to mile 16 of the 19 mile drive. At mile 16 we decided to hike toward Pikes Peak not really intending to go all the way up so I didn’t put on my hiking boots. The going was easier than I thought for being at 13000 feet and we made it to a point just below the peak about 600 feet where the snow/ice covered the trail. We turned around at this point because sneakers don’t do good on ice. Beautiful hike all along the crest toward the peak. The weather was perfect, a lot better than the last time I was at the peak with clouds/fog, 13 degrees and 40MPH+ winds, grueling. |
