| no partners | | I was finally able to make it to the Galiuros to see the fall colors and was not disappointed. Although the colors of the maples weren’t quite at peak there were still lots of color variations, and the aspen were bright yellow.
The highlight of the day was meeting the Arizona famous Chumley (he’s not ‘World’ famous yet). Thanks to all of his and others past trip reports I recognized him right off the bat. One of his hiking buddy’s said he’s almost as famous as Blanco and Cup.
This was a very nice hike with lots of old growth trees (oak, pine, fur, aspen) and the area hasn’t been hit with any recent fires so there’s lots of vegetation. These undisturbed mountain areas are getting hard to find these days. That said, there is an annoying black plastic pipe along a good portion of the trail, but it’s no longer in service (based on the numerous disconnected or broken sections of pipe sticking out of the ground). Sounds like Chumley is up for organizing a party to remove the pipe, count me in.
I will definitely be doing this hike again as I want to get up to Bassett Peak (I was too busy taking pictures on this hike). |
