| no partners | | I hadn't been in there to see the fall colors since 2010, so decided it was time to check it out. As has been the case with other places I have visited recently, the color change is running late this year. In fact I have never seen it this "green" so late. Also, there is more water in the lower part of the canyon than I have observed on previous visits. The amount of deadfall seems to be increasing too. No matter as it is a special place.
The drive out there is as enjoyable as the hike. Beautiful country and as you pass through the Ash Creek Hills section, the view of the Galiuros keeps getting more inviting. The forest roads in to the parking area are in fine shape. Only ran into one other person while hiking. Nice quiet day out there. A little breezy, but being in the canyon muted most of that. (Note: though it was okay in the sheltered canyon, it was very windy on the drive out, with a lot of dust and silt blowing off the Willcox Playa. So much so that as I dropped out of Texas Canyon, the Cochise Power Plant to the south was almost impossible to see). |

Autumn Foliage Observation Light Still mostly green (isolated) for the maples up to a short ways past lower Ash Spring, then mostly light until close to Upper Ash Spring. Aspen pocket there about half turned. I would say prime color for the canyon is about 7 to 10 days away. |
