This was Part of Day 1 of an 8 Day Camping Trip to Chase Fall Colors...I wanted to stop in Tucson and hit a few Birding Spots on the way down to my Destination. I hadn't hit any of these Spots before, so it was all New... :)

Coachline Gravel Pit - A little History here. This is Owned by the Town of Marana and a few Years ago, a local Disc Golf Club got Permission to build a Course in there. It became a World Class Course and they were actually looking forward to Hosting a National Event there soon. Then the heavier than normal Rains happened earlier this Year, the Santa Cruz River breached a Dike and the Pit filled up with Water and became a Lake. Then, in Short Order, the Birds moved in and there were some pretty Special Ones. The Pit now became quite the little Birding Destination. The Site is still in Limbo somewhat, but the Pit still has Water and the Town is trying to find the Frisbee Fanatics a new Home. They are leaning towards allowing the Water to stay and making the Area a Preserve...

The Water was a little Low compared to Photos I've seen, but there were a couple of Birds worthy of trying to get a Lens on, including a Lone Pelican on an Old Tire... Apparently there's a Sparrow in there that Birders are after, but I'm not too excited about Sparrows so much, so I didn't spend much time on that one... ;)

Sweetwater Wetlands - Tucson's Equivalent to the Gilbert Riparian Preserve. Hoofed around some Trails in there for a couple of Hours, but things were slow in the late Morning/Early Afternoon. Nice Place though. Was hoping to see the Local Bobcat, but it was not to be on this Day... :(

Reid Park - Kind of a small Version of Papago Park. City Park adjacent to a City Zoo. Really only 1 Reason for an Out-of-Towner to hit this Park and that's for the Wood Duck Pair that call these two Small Ponds Home most of the Time. I was disappointed as they simply were not there. They must have decided to go visit some Buddies at the Zoo... :( I did get to see Nemo though... :)

Not a bad way to start a very Sweet Roadtrip... :D
