As I was returning home from a hike on Saturday with Angela and Ambika, I was treated to a view of the almost full moon rising over the Superstitions [ photo ] The view got me thinking about the Full Moon that would be showing itself on Wednesday and if I could get some interesting shots of it from different perspectives and using more zoom, zoom to enhance the experience.

I have "Photographers Ephemeras" loaded on my cell phone (it's a free app called TPE) that will predict the path of the sun or moon for any given day along with the sun/moon rise and set times. I projected the path of the moon for the next couple of days then went out into the desert along Goldfield Road (in Apache Junction), positioned myself at a strategic location and set up my camera/tripod and waited for the first glimpse of the moon to show itself. The app was amazingly accurate as I was trying to get the view of the moon rising close to the Flatiron.

Once the moon starts its rise, you don't have much time to run around finding the best place to shoot the moon, you have to take what you got and try to make the best of it. The first two shots were taken on Sunday and I'm satisfied with my position, the group of Hoodoos are peak 4648 above Monument Canyon. The next two shots were taken on Monday from a different location (because the moon doesn't follow the same path every day) from a vacant lot along Tomahawk Road and Superstition Blvd. The high point to the left of the moon is the Hoodoo family directly behind the Flat Iron.

I'll be out again today as I try to find the optimal spot to shoot Wednesday's Full Moon rising over the Flat Iron :D

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.
