| no partners | | I went with a local hiking group to this place, very close to Page, across the bridge. You'll need four wheel drive--very sandy road. (See GPS route.) I only GPSed the hiking part. Destination was to a lot of water pockets known as Thousand Pockets. So, so glad I bought the Jeep. Although I could have caught a ride it was nice to be able to provide a ride to a couple guys.
(It's interesting to note that this area is accessed via upper Ferry Swale Canyon. I pass by lower Ferry Swale Canyon in my tour raft every work day. At the river it's a hanging canyon. It has a nice waterfall I've seen after a monsoon storm.)
The sandstone formations in this area take various forms. The destination was to see some of the pockets of water, many of which were dry. A lot of the folks didn't climb up to see the water pockets due to difficulty, but I didn't think it was particularly hard. There was some scrambling, however.
Glad I found this group, now that I'm living in Page. They hike only on Fridays, so I'll have to try to get Fridays off. |
