| no partners | | This was really a fun little hike. There's only a little route-finding where the Stanton's Road has washed out a bit, and across the big dune at the base of Echo Peak. For a good bit of the way the Navajo horses keep the trail open and free from brush.
Hislop Cave is really interesting and photogenic, and of course Glen Canyon itself is wonderful. This trail takes you up a lot further in Glen Canyon than does the Lees Ferry River Trail. You could probably follow it further than I did. I've traced its course many times from the vantage point of a boat.
I paddled my inflatable kayak upriver only a short distance and then across, and hid it behind the tammies. (See GPS route.) Very easy. You don't need a fancy boat. In fact, you could walk up the river trail a ways with a pack raft, launch it, and drift downriver while paddling across to the other side. Just be sure to launch above where you can see that gray metal scaffolding across the river. (It used to hold a cable car for the government to cross. They now have one downstream.)
