| partners | | Anytime I set up a hike with JJ, I immediately go and empty my pack of all non-essential items, which is exactly what I did after we exchanged texts yesterday. Then he said it should take us 6 hours, so I did another round of removing basically everything from my pack.
Saw DallinW at the trailhead--nice to meet you!!--and then we got started around 9am. I managed to keep up for the first mile and a half, then dropped behind a little bit, but caught up again. Barnhardt seemed to go by pretty quickly, and we only ran into one other person past the falls.
On the Divide trail, I stopped for a minute for put on more sunblock, and have an excuse to breathe. I sort of slacked between about mile 8-9, and got one more one minute break. It started to sprinkle a little bit, which reminded me that I had removed my rain jacket and waterproof phone case from my pack yesterday. But the rain was nice, and I was bummed it only lasted for a minute. We got to Y-Bar pretty quickly after that.
Y-Bar was pretty, but the rocks slowed me down. They surprisingly didn't bother my knee too much though. JJ said we would finish in less than five and half hours, which I was happy to hear. Then he said that if we kept the pace we were at, we could be done in five, to which I responded with 'Let's not get crazy here.', but it did push me to continue to give full effort. On the way down, I may have said a few things like 'This is not downhill.', 'Hey, are you jogging? That looks like jogging to me.', but I kept the complaining to a minimum, especially since the offer of food was thrown out there. Finished the loop in 4:47, so I was pretty happy. Fun day! |
