| no partners | | It felt like I hadn't really done much mileage-wise for May, hiking or treadmill, so I wanted to get out of Phx and get some mileage in. Started at about 8:15, and headed up Icehouse in a light rain, which lasted for about an hour. Saw three coatimundis near the top, managed to get pics of two of them. Went up Signal Peak, then headed over to Pinal. I think the views are a little bit better from Signal.
Looked around the upper campground, hoping maybe there would be a direct trail down to Sixshooter, but I didn't see anything obvious, and the clouds were darkening again, so I headed down the road. Took the trail that runs east of Sixshooter for a little bit just to see where it went, but I didn't want to head back uphill, nor downhill and have to regain elevation, so I turned around pretty quickly.
Headed down Sixshooter. I really like the upper two-thirds of the trail, it's very smooth and easy to make good time. I'm less a fan of the lower third, it's a little too rocky in places to maintain a consistent speed, and the rocks twist my right knee a little too much--although that was partially my fault for wearing a lighter brace today. Hearing running water for long stretches of the way made up for it though.
Got back to the truck at 1:45. Did not see a single person all day--perfect!!! |
