It was a delightful day, with cloud cover on our uphill and not-too-hot temps on our traverse around the south side. Lady bugs at the top weren't overpowering yet, but when the breezes died down, the flies were a problem.
It was funny, Amy and I were comparing notes on how we both find the idea of riding a road bike up a steep road such as the Mt. Lemmon Highway to be completely unappealing. We said that there were probably people who thought what we did was equally unappealing. About half way between Josephine Saddle and Baldy Saddle Michelle made a half-way-under-her-breath comment that she didn't think trudging up a hot, humid, steep trail was any more appealing than the cycling option. Of course that just made me laugh - it reminded me a little of hiking that same stretch with Tibber .
On the way down, we took the Pipeline route. It was a bit of a risk, since I haven't been on it so many years and I wasn't sure of the condition. Michelle has a bad knee, so I didn't want to get into trouble with loose footing or a very hard to follow route. The pipline was only steep at the very top, and even then nothing bad. It is so beautiful in there, I think I should stop recommending it to anyone else. |
