| no partners | | Today I would again race Virtual JJ, but this time it was intentional. I downloaded his last track, which came in at 4:04. Considering That my previous go at this one came in just short of 5 hours, I really hadn't planed to get close to JJs time. I had the low bar set at 4:30 and the high bar at 4:15. Anything in that window would be fine with me
I hit the go button at 0722 and the race was on. I kept a pretty good speed up, averaging a flat 3 mph through the 6th mile, then came the dead fall and the climb toward Baldy Saddle. By the time I made the saddle I was down to 2.9 mph, and by the peak, 2.8. I took 4 minutes at the saddle before the climb to the peak, or I would probably fallen further behind. I tagged Wrightson in 2:48 and Immediately began my trail run down.
I ran into Roy Carter and his gang as the were climbing Old Baldy. I hope your hike went well and your GPS was still in place. With his group, I had seen 16 hikers. By the end of the trail I would see a total of 41 hikers. This is a busy place.
Anywho, back to it. I was able to run most of Old Baldy and managed to get my average back up. I might have even trimmed another minute or two off my time had I not snagged that tree root with my right foot I hit the ground like a bag of bricks. That put a big dent in my confidence and I slowed it up a touch after that. I hit the stop button at 1134. Total down time 1:24.
I didn't beat Virtual JJ, I came in 8 minutes behind him, but I did manage to beat my own expectations by a couple of minutes. It's been a good week |
