| no partners | | I had good luck in this area so I planned a trip to walk down another drainage looking for "signs of the ancients". I had scouted out the locations of pools (always a good place to look) and plotted a route which somehow didn't make it into my GPS. Luckily I had previously saved waypoints for a few of the pools so I decided to wing it.
Started by heading south down the AZT off Twin Buttes Road...I had planned to follow that a ways before heading cross-country but I actually missed where it split from the rough Saddle Ridge Tank Road (the entrance/alignment has been changed since I was last there) and so I ended up at the Tank. From here it was bushwacking.
I walked the ridge segment west of Saddle Ridge then went down to the drainage to try my luck at the pools. The pools which show up on the current satellite picture were mainly missing but I knew there was a big one ahead. The big one did turn out to be an impressive spot with a petroglyph panel but that was the extent of my findings.
I climbed out of the wash and dodged junipers for a while and came across a few scattered pottery pieces and flaked rock before intersecting the AZ trail and heading back. |
