| partners | | Wanted to go see the leaves. Needed a break from biking and miss hiking with my little man. All these trails were new to me, and if I had it to do all over, I would have done the loop part the opposite way so to be able to linger and gawk at the leaves along Marshall Gulch trail on the way back and take as much time there as possible. It was the highlight of the whole hike! Really the only place with any turning leaves (insert missing leaf throwing smiley here - where'd all the smilies go?), with the exception of a couple patches of yellow from some stray Aspens. We parked at the Sunset TH and went from there to Marshall Gulch picnic area and headed up Marshall Gulch, cuz, well, that's the trail we saw first. We had a great time with all the water and leaves and pretty trees changing colors. Then we got to the saddle, and Tug tried to immediately finish the loop. I said 'no way, we've got to do the whole Aspen trail!' So we headed up to Radio Ridge and then back down. Must be some fire in the area somewhere, because WOW was the air completely a soup bowl of nastiness from that vantage point! Geez! Good view of Summerhaven from up there. We headed back and finished the loop on the Aspen trail. None of it was as nice as the Marshall Gulch stretch, but we still enjoyed being out there and having the trails to ourselves, with the exception of a few people at the saddle. |
