| partners | | First day of Winter Break!!! So of course I am trying to keep my kids somewhat exhausted. After hiking up Peralta in November, I had decided the recent trail maintenance would make this a good choice for my kids, and the weather forecast for today seemed perfect. Celina & her kids (the same ages as mine) joined us as well. We got to the nearly empty trailhead at 9:00, and I was a little worried about the light rain, but it never got too bad. Some rocks were slick on the way up, but the kids didn't have any problems. It was definitely slow going, with lots of breaks, but we made it to the saddle just before noon. The kids played for a while, then we headed back down. By then, any rain had stopped and the sun was making brief appearances. The trail had dried, but the last mile or so was when each kid managed to take a tumble. Nothing major, but magical cure-all bandaids were required. The kids had fun, and I was able to get several good pics during the day. We only saw a handful of people the entire way--far less than I was expecting to see. |
