| no partners | | Another great trip to West Clear Creek. I also was able to Find Almal's Resort and Spa at the 7 mile mark.
Started Sunday at 7:30, was up early and no traffic so was ready to go. Was nice to see the water low again when i landed at Crossing 1, Kinda misleading since ya dont cross at crossing 1.
The flowers are amazing right now, so many everywhere, I took many pics and many OOOO MYYYY stops, or as I would say in my Camper Trips Whinebago Joys .
Like @Almal said all the crossing are wet now, no rock hopping or tree balancing so be prepared.
At crossing 2b I ran into a guy with 2 dogs, one had bandages on all 4 feet, poor guy , said he was licking his feet all night and licked em raw. I said maybe Poison Ivy, dog seemed in good spirits, Pit Mix, he was gunna carry him across the waters to help his feet stay dry. Only 1.5miles to go for them so Im sure they did ok.
Landed at crossing 3, decided to check out the HIDDEN campsite on my trip out, so onto #4. Landed at #4 at like 10:30... way to early to stop. I was kinda tired, hadnt hiked in like 5 weeks. Checked the map and it looked pretty flat the next 1.5miles to what I thought was @Almal's Restort and Spa, so I truged onward.
After about 1.5 miles or 45min I was scanning the trail for the Hidden access to the resort. I had a track on Rout Scout of peeps who went to the waterfall, so went to where they went down to the Creek and BAM! Found the Resort.
Its a very nice, secluded spot. The Resort leaves you plenty of Fire Wood, xtra Tent Poles if needed. Fire Grate for Coffee or fish fry, and a Nice Recliner to relax in. 5 Star for sure.
So Now for my story, sit back and be ready to Laugh yer Arse off . So got my Water Bag full, filled my jugs and my belly and proceeded to get my nice little telescoping Ultralight Pole and Real setup. Tossed in my line right in front of Camp, made a few re-sets of my line, but didnt like the spot. Moved down the creek about 25', bigger pool with swirls like oil slick on top which meant pretty calm, slow water. Cleared out a spot, lots of brush at the edge of the creek here, got my pole holder, and tossed in my line. Let it sit a minute or so, didnt like the spot, so tossed it in a little more in front of me... YAaaaaa thats it. Set me pole on my holder.... hmmm... I need a sitting rock, turned around to look for one... BAM! FISH ON!!!.. I turn around as my pole LAUNCHES into the creek.... yup.. there it goes ...Ok I havent been here an hour and already LOST my pole... so I run down the bank, well kinda.. lots of brush. about 15' down I see it again, my pole (why I wear Polarized sunglasses), what to do.... wellp.. gotta get wet.. I strip off everything cept my Undies and my Shades... and off the pole goes again, right when I step into the creek upto my knees in muck I crawl out, literally, and down the creek about 50' farther... and lo and behold, it stopped At this spot its right before the fast water so gravel bottom.. YES!!! I can walk here.. so step in, remember Im barefoot and almost nekkid walking thru brush, sticks and god knows what. I get basically to the center of the creek, yup there is my Pole about 6' under water, only one thing to do... YUP... in I go... get to it on my tippy toes... snag it with my toes.. up she comes , only thing dry now is 1/2 my neck and my head... oh and the FISH is still on...LOL... was under a big rock and snagged on a stick.. un snagged him.. but couldnt get him out and he broke the line.. Well he deserved to get away after that ordeal.... Be free fishy.. be Free.
Went back to my clothes, and actually It wasn't that cold, now my toes hurt bad, stubbed em all like 10x
As you can see in my pics.. I added a safety device on my pole, to eliminate any more adventures... LOL.. and it worked, 1hr later caught a big one and the safety line worked like a charm.
Next Day I head down to Crossing #3 and scoped out the hidden spot. Really Nice, caught a nice diner fish there also. At night I broke a rule of sleeping, I braught in my snack bag into my tent . I usualy just have Peanut M&M's for my late night hunger. Sometime at night I hear a scratching, the second Time I looked out just in time to see a Ringtail scoot into the brush. 1st time seeing one of em. So no more food in my tent.. I learned, luckily the easy not HARD way.
I was up early, and to my Rig at 930am. Was a great adventure and planing on heading back in a couple weeks |
