I haven't completed a 10 mile hike since Mt. Humphrey last July or 4,000 feet since Mt. Kimball last October. Temperatures looked very favorable for mid day hiking and I was off at 10:15 AM.

Chilly at the start in wind/shade and a little chilly at the finish with strong wind gusts. Just about perfect down in the inner canyon, sun or no sun, wind or no wind, didn't matter. The river is an awesome color right now... kind of greenish blue.

I took a long rest at the canteen bench and squirrels jumped on me a couple times to disturb me. Had an apple purchased from the canteen, as well as the quest bar I brought along. I stayed at phantom for nearly 1.5 hrs, mostly just resting.

Legs felt good as I began the ascent. I flew up past the tonto junction, but everything from there was a grind. Don't know how some of you guys do even longer hikes with more aeg... hats off to all of you!

Topped off at 5:08PM, up in 3:05, which I am pleased with, given my lack of distance training (and fairly limited hiking). Outside of strong wind gusts at times, it was just about a perfect day to be down there.

I'm giving myself 5,000, though it might be a smidgen less. Maybe not though because you sure have to step up a lot on the descent with the choppy trail.
