My experience with tanks in AZ is that they dry up after the rainy season so why would one be a fishing destination. I decided to check it out. It was a short hike through the ponderosa pine forest. The tank was quite large and loaded with thousands of frogs sitting along the bank. The frogs would let out a chirp and jump into the water as I walked along the bank. The water was muddy, not what I picture as good habitat for trout, but was still quite scenic. When I got back to the car a father and his son were just getting out of their truck with fly rods. They told me this tank and a few others in the area are planted with trout by AZ Fish and Game folks. A Flagstaff fly fishing club does some maintenance cleaning up shore debris, etc. Maybe the next time I'm in this area I'll bring my float tube and fly fishing gear that's been sitting idle in the garage since I left Oregon. |
