Another successful Summer HAZFest thanks to the detailed planning, camp setup and firewood gathering by Chumley. NoNot performed his usual pyrotechnic miracles. My only contribution was to secure the campsite on the preceding Sunday and setup an empty tent to ensure it looked occupied while out exploring the area during the week. Tough duty but someone had to do it. Seven of Chumley's equine friends showed up on my first day at the campsite and dropped by to visit at least twice a day throughout the week. Some of his bovine friends wandered by but didn't come into camp. I was gone from camp all day on Monday and upon returning discovered that someone had knocked down my kitchen tarp and moved some of my stuff around. The equine group was hanging around on the outskirts of camp and their leader had a guilty look but the bovine contingent appeared innocent. Fortunately nothing was damaged - the perils of camping in an open range.

Folks started showing up Thursday evening after dark and by Friday night we had a respectably sized group around the campfire. Saturday everyone went off on hiking missions. Heavy rain and lightning that afternoon failed to dampen our spirits as more members showed up at camp and a few half drowned rats (myself included)returned from hiking. We hung out under a large tarp waiting for the rain to let up while Chumley was in constant motion digging a ditch to drain the puddle forming under the tarp and throwing down pine needles to cover the mud. The rain settled down to a sprinkle and NoNot got a huge fire going while people gathered around under umbrellas. The rain soon stopped that evening and the sun came out Sunday morning quickly drying up camp as people again set off on their hiking adventures.
