| no partners | | Started this hike knowing I would probably have to bail out before reaching the falls or any really scenic high point due to a late start and predicted 90+ mid-day temperatures. However the falls weren't a real priority since there wouldn't be any water. There was a nice cooling breeze at the start of the hike but at about the 1.6 mile point the trail started following the bottom of a gully up the hill which effectively blocked the breeze. It was heating up fast. There had been some nice views along the way so I wasn't too motivated to push onward in the heat despite being prepared with a spray bottle of water and my Frogtog neck cooler. The thought of stopping at the Bluebird for a lunchtime cheese burger and beer sealed the deal and I turned around at 1.9 miles. However I will be back for this one. Another hiker told me the trail continued up the hillside above the falls switch-backing around a line of hoodoos - definitely worth exploring. |
