The day before they arrived I scouted out a couple of short hikes to take them on. The Aspen Nature Loop turned out to be an excellent choice for young kids and definitely lived up to my expectations based on the HAZ hike description and triplogs. My photoset for this hike includes both photos from my solo hike and the hike with family the next day. I hiked an additional 2 miles out and back on the AZT on my solo hike as shown in the attached gps track. The following day with family we got a later start and just did the 1.5 mile loop due to threatening thunderstorms. This hike passes through part of the Hart Prairie with its large meadows surrounded by forests of fir, pine, spruce and aspen trees. The meadows are lush with tall grass and scattered wild flowers this time of year due to the summer monsoon rains which made for some beautiful scenery. |
