| no partners | | Since I am reasonably fit after completing the Colorado Trail last Tuesday and still acclimated to altitude, I figured now would be a good time to summit Humphrey's for my second time.
I left my North Phoenix home a bit past seven and was on trail about 9:30. I was hoping to summit by noon but missed that by a few minutes. The trail was rootier and rockier than I remember it from my only other summit six years ago to the day. Yes, to the day. That was a surprise when I noticed.
The hike was mostly in a cloud and was cool and damp. I started off wearing a fleece hoody but soon replaced it with my wind jacket, which I wore for the rest of the hike.
Being Saturday, there was a fair number of people on the trail, many of which I passed on the way up and then again, on my way back down. I remember the climb being much more difficult six years ago. This time I cruised on up and didn't have any trouble with the altitude. Ah the benefits of spending 25 days at altitude in Colorado.
I was hoping the cloud would clear at the summit and it almost did. There were short views of Snow Bowl and on the way back down, some views into the inner basin, but they were fleeting.
All in all, a great hike. |
