| partners | | After about a week of being sick I called Scott Friday to see if he was interested in a day trip today to the Sierra Ancha, since I was not going to be camping there. He suggested this, and with my knowledge of the forecast for the Peaks this day, I thought it was a great idea. It was just perfect early October conditions, with shorts and t-shirts going up, and pretty mild conditions on the summit. Scott went team skins, but he is crazy that way. Weather such as we had today is about as good as Humphrey can get!
It was crowded at times, but not terrible, and it is a 3 day holiday weekend and a Saturday. The air was clear, and long distance views are at winter quality. The Pine Valley Mountains were visible to me with my sun glasses. Our later day summit afforded me some nice shadows on the Vermillion/ Paria Cliffs, and North Rim was enjoyable.
We did go a bit slower than I normally do, being as I felt about 80% of my normal from being sick, and Scott isn't use to altitude, but this was fine for me as I enjoyed the hike more and enjoyed being above treeline and going slower, soaking in the day. Congratulations on Scott's second summit! He's got...huh...a few more to go to catch up to me. |
