This time, I brought the vague directions from the hike description. It helped, but wasn't enough to get me to where others have started. I was fine with it. This did have more to do with the road conditions in the wash crossings, but I may have pushed on if I had known I was on the right track.
I probed some incorrect roads and scraped my low front end in a wash crossing before I parked at the northern end of Woolsey Wash Rd and started out for the Peak. I came to hike, and as it was I knew I could get there and back, and thought this was more efficient for the half day I had left before sundown. I followed road before I got tired of that, then went across the desert right for Woolsey. Once near the base, Todd's photo with his route colored in proved highly useful. Thanks. I once again started late, and so I didn't spend too much time on the summit. It was nice, but the air seemed dirty on the horizon.
After a what is never enough time on top, I started down. Woolsey wasn't as bad as I feared it might be, so descent on the north slope was pretty fast. I followed roads far more on the way out since I didn't want to risk crossing the desert in the dark. Finishing up I felt it was a lot more fun than it seemed at times, but uncertainty had a lot to do with that. Really, I should have left by 8, not 10. I was glad I came out here, as I would like to return to explore more of the area. |
