As for the hike, head south, and up. Tedious walk over volcanic rocks. A crawl under some barbed wire. Then a steeper hike up more volcanic rocks. We found more of a cairned route higher up, which was helpful, but very steep. The final portion of the ascent has a lot of cholla.
Took a break at the summit, which has even more cholla. Views in the afternoon were hazier than the morning. The descent was slow going, to avoid sliding on loose rock or landing on a cholla. Nobody fell on either hike, so the day was a success. Cool temps were very much appreciated. Thanks, John, for joining me on these two hikes. |
