The direct straight up northern approach is definitely the best way to go for this mountain due to its access point.
The rocky seldom traveled desert road that leads to Woolsey Spring was too much for my SUV to safely handle so I parked 2 1/2 miles out from my proposed starting point and just began walking.
I soon realized I probably would not make a summit ascent that day since I got out there late and was only planning a quick hike.
I debated on jumping over to the nearby Signal Peak on the way instead but I just proceeded onward into the Woolsey Peak Wilderness.
I climbed up and down through some very annoying arroyos before finally gaining a decent amount of elevation on to the slopes of Woolsey.
I proceeded a bit more up to a little bench area, had one too many brews and just sat there and listened to the literal sound of absolute nothing in one of the most quiet places I've ever been to.
I'm anxious to get back out there with a real camera and of course to make a summit on both Woolsey and Signal Peak later on this year. |
