It turned out to be a fun little hike down through some wonderful badland siltstone and sandstone erosion formations cut through ancient depositions from inland seas and old Colorado River alignments. The slot portion doesn't last long, as the wash opens up. There are various loop possibilities of varying length, but I did this counterclockwise, pulling up out of the wash on a jeep track to the rim (one way down only for vehicles), before heading back to the parking area. Some fine views to the north across the Borrego Badlands toward Fonts Point and beyond to the Santa Rosa Mountains add to the beauty. |
