| no partners | | It Was a Batsh#t Crazy Good Time...Again!
So my home for the night would be site #43. This is where I camped with my girlfriend in September 2005, as part of a road trip to celebrate getting back together after a 3 month breakup.  (cue the music...What a Fool Believes...  ) It is a small hidden site, certainly not the best in this great little park, but given that it was a holiday weekend, I was glad it was available.  
As I was setting up the tent and getting situated, I heard a faint squeaking sound and noticed a deposit of guano below a cleft in the rocks. Bats.  I knew this would make for an interesting night! Sure enough, when it was getting dark they started to fly out for night patrol. Actually it was kind of cool having them flying about overhead and through the rocks.  As it got to be night they must have been mainly off elsewhere as activity diminished around camp.
As they were flying around, I kept hearing something hitting the tarp by the tent occasionally. Yep, little bat "droppings." So, when I finally called it a night, I put the rain fly on the tent, just in case my little friends had other gifts they might have wanted to bestow on me. 
In the first light of morning I could hear them flying around again, as they wound things down from their night ops, and prepared to roost up in the rocks. It took them awhile, that's for sure. That gave me time to try to get some video, once the light became sufficient.
After making my usual morning photo walk, it was time to head back to camp and have some coffee. A woman from Silver City walked up with her grandson from the site below, and we enjoyed some good conversation. Then it was time to pack things up and finish the drive home, roasted chile bounty in tow! Just another fun time on the road...
